Boy gets support through intervention of OGF founder

A seven year old disabled boy has been gifted with a wheel chair following the intervention of founder of the Opoku Gakpo Foundation.

He was also given an undisclosed sum of money by the Member of Parliament for Agona East in the Central Region Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer.

Baba Karim who lives in Ejura in the Ashanti Region has suffered with physical disability since he was born.

His legs developed so thin that he has been unable to walk with it all his life. He thus crawls on the ground, a condition his mother Hajara Mamoud says makes taking him to school a major daily struggle.

Officials of the Rural Smile Foundation, which works to support persons with disability took interest in the child when they spotted him and his mother at a meeting organized by the group in the Ejura Community.

“I asked whether he’s in school and was told yes but he doesn’t have wheelchair. So, I took a picture with him and circulated it on facebook for support,” Abubakar Saddique who is founder of the organization explained.

The founder of Opoku Gakpo Foundation brought the issue to the attention of Member of Parliament who invited him and the mother to her residence in Accra and gave them the support.

“On international day of charity, Baaba Karim caught the eye of Hon. Queenstar Pokuaa Sawyer through my good friend Opoku Gakpo. Thank you,” founder of Rural Smile Foundation Abubakar Saddique said in a facebook post.

The MP says she will work with her colleague MP for Ejura to help get medical attention for the boy so he can recover fully and walk.

Project Manager at the Opoku Gakpo Foundation commended the MP for her kind gesture noting, “the world needs more of these kind acts.”
